  • Go over mandatory requirements, directions, and tips and tutorials for each genre on class website. Students will use these pages as guides for their films.
    • Music videos have specific requirements and choices to make. Guide students on those choices.​
    • Documentaries have specific style/structure for their director and storytelling technique. Guide students on those choices.
  • Music video students will begin filling out storyboads and shot lists, and documentary students will begin filling out research outlines.

  • Reflect on our guest speaker we watched yesterday with Digital Media students. Write a reflection using the rubric we went over.
  • Introduction to Semester 2 Film projects:
    • ​View examples of previous student and professional films from each of these genre categories:

  • Work alone or break into teams and brainstorm ideas. Take notes.

  • Prepare for our guest speakers: One speaker is a film major, the other integrated marketing communications. Write a minimum of 2 questions for each speaker. Get questions approved by teacher.

  • Review storyboard format and storyboarding technique. View Psycho shower scene. Count the cuts -> each cut gets it's own frame/panel on our storyboards
  • View an exemplar professional example for creative inspiration and discuss the inclusion of the aforementioned important elements
  • Listen to famous commercial jingles and slogans to inspire our writing
  • Check completion of storyboards, consult with students on difficulties with writing, filming, editing. Move forward in the right direction.
  • Continue writing our slogans or jingles

In Class Thursday, August 29th - Commercials Day 2:
  • View our favorite commercials that we posted about for HW, write ​what we could potentially pull off even though we're not pros, what we can borrow for inspiration, then pair up, share out
  • View examples of previous DIS and BFS student commercials for creative inspiration
  • Stress the importance of memorability - the ability to get our audience to remember our storylines but most importantly our product. Show a cat herding commercial. Our commercials must not only have an amazing story, but the product must play a central role in the story, the product must be constantly repeated and visible, and make us think about the product non-stop.
  • Break into our teams and continue brainstorming ideas
  • Learn requirements for Commercial project
  • Begin our storyboards
  • Review storyboard format and storyboarding technique. View scene with quick cuts. Count the cuts -> each cut gets it's own frame/panel on our storyboards
  • Pitch our product ideas, consult with teams and move in the right direction

HW Due Thursday, August 29th:
  • Brainstorm and write 3 specific products for your commercials. Post on the forum on the Google Classroom.

In Class Tuesday, August 27th - Cinematography Boot Camp Day 7 & Commercials Day 1:
  • View some of our Cinematography Boot Camp videos. Discuss what we liked and areas with room for improvement
  • Fill out the Google Form Boot Camp Summative Assessment
  • Complete Google Classroom Forum 1.1 Favorite Commercials​
  • After students post, they can view examples of previous DIS and BFS commercials for creative inspiration
  • After all students post, we can view our favorite commercials that we posted about on the class forum, discuss what worked well in them, what didn't, what we could potentially pull off even though we're not pros, what we can borrow for inspiration, etc.
  • Individually write down top 3 ideas for products to advertise while viewing and discussing

In Class Friday, August 23rd - Cinematography Boot Camp Day 6:
  • Share "Screenplayed" YouTube channel with class, view scene from Interstellar. Discuss screenplay format and actors that alter the script in great ways
  • Show Final Draft of Cinematography Boot Camp to teacher
  • Fill out Final Draft to Finalized Draft checklist by using Boot Camp rubric as guide
  • Go through checklist and finish videos, turn in Finalized Draft to teacher

In Class Wednesday, August 21st - Cinematography Boot Camp Day 5:
  • 13 Creative Film & Video Editing Techniques video tutorial. Students write down at least one editing cut they can use in their Cinematography Boot Camp films and discuss how they will use that technique with their partners
  • Show YouTube Royalty Free Audio Library with music and sound effects and how to take advantage of the free resources
  • Continue editing

  • Understanding the 180 Degree Rule video and discussion, which demonstrates problems with breaking 180 degree rule

In Class Tuesday, August 13th - Cinematography Boot Camp Day 2:
  • Plot diagram / screen writing (Monster's Inc) video and discussion
  • Review the cinematography shots we must incorporate into our boot camp videos: Essential Camera Shots, Angles, Camera Movement (Cinematography) video and discussion
  • View Christopher Nolan's student film Doodlebug. Discuss how this inspires our filmmaking and screen writing for this class
  • Teacher will put a camera under the doc cam as students get out their cameras as the teacher discusses how to use the DSLR cameras, especially in regards to focus and automatic settings
  • Continue writing our Cinematography Boot Camp storyboards

  • Learn requirements for our intro to filmmaking Cinematography Boot Camp project.
  • Discuss Plot Diagram and components of screen writing: protagonist, antagonist, intro, conflict, plot points, climax, resolution/falling action, breaking rules, etc.
  • Learn the storyboard writing format and procedures
  • Begin brainstorming ideas for plot and the angles we will use, begin writing our Cinematography Boot Camp storyboards

  • Demo of student progress: student's high school stuco video, high school vlog, uni dance channel, discuss the progression, the number of followers and views, and how we can do that, too
  • Discuss mature content of top films and mature film analysis we will have throughout the year
