- Your target audience is elementary children and younger
- Include a moral to the story, or a conflict with resolution
- Villains lose, good guys win
- No violence
- Magic / make-believe is okay as long as it is logical
- Use your imagination. Kids have an even bigger imagination than us. Stretch the boundaries of your mind, be a kid again when you write this.
- Strong plot that is easy to follow
- Use a lot of art
- Draw characters consistently on each page
- Minimal text, perfect English and grammar in all text
- Creative title on front page of book, along with author name
- Beginning, middle, end, and closure
